Moorefield Gardens, Kilmoganny Horticulture project

Moorefield Gardens is a horticulturally productive area of c.2.5 acres. We are fortunate to have a strong relationship with our local community which has grown from the establishment of the first L’Arche residential centre in Ireland over 40 years ago in Moorefield. These beautiful gardens are a space where Core members explore and indulge in their gardening interests, learning and other hobbies.

We enjoy sharing these seasonal experiences together. A wide range of programmes are offered which include Candle Making, Cookery, Recycled, Walking Club, Woodwork, and Meditation. We also have a beautiful bell choir that comes together to make music and during harvest season we enjoy selling our produce at a variety of market stalls.

Each Core members enjoys a weekly plan which is person centred and diverse. An important part of our identity at the garden is rooted in our environmentally friendly ethos.
We strive together, to produce food in a fashion that enriches, rather than deteriorates, our local environment and therefore practise chemical-free growing. To do so, we make our own compost and comfrey fertiliser on site, weed by hand, and try various natural means of controlling pests.
