L’Arche together with the Core members provide supported living accommodation across each community.

Learning

Learning and formation are integral to L’Arche. We are walking together on a life journey of experiential learning. Formation is a reflective training model based on ethos and value. Formation and training options are open to both Core members and Staff team members. Formal training is provided for staff team members, assistants, and volunteers. This is devised of mandatory training to be completed both pre commencement with L’Arche and on commencement of a contract. Learning for Core members is further provided through the Day project opportunities where each Core member has a person-centred plan (PCP) and can choose from formal and informal learning programmes.

Recreation & Time Together

What does this mean in L’Arche?

Recreation refers to all those activities that Core members choose to do to refresh their bodies and minds and make their leisure time more interesting and enjoyable. We enjoy activities such as walking, swimming, meditation, reading, playing games and dancing. Together we get involved with local sports partnership events and with Special Olympics Ireland. Communities that participate in physical activity, sports, and recreation have the opportunity to develop strong social bonds with peers. Other recreational activities include scrap booking, making jewellery, music, exercising, nature walking, reading, and playing board games or just connecting in casual conversation. In L’Arche we view celebration as an important part of our ongoing recreation and time together. We enjoy collectively celebrating one another; birthday parties, sharing meals or as part of connecting with our local and wider communities and our National and International L’Arche community for different occasions.

’Find a group of people who challenge and inspire you, spend a lot of time with them, and it will change your life.’
